In Memoriam: Ken Johnson, Jr.
Ken Johnson Jr., Director of DAPER Communications Promotions and Marketing, passed away on Feb. 12. Johnson was in his eighth season at MIT.
Dr. G. Anthony Grant, MIT Director of Athletics and DAPER Department Head, said Johnson “displayed a genuine passion and commitment to promoting the tremendous accomplishments of our student-athletes and coaches.”
Johnson received the 2019 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Excellence in Communications Award for NCAA Division III Track and Field. He also served in leadership capacities for sports communications organizations, including the Eastern Athletic Communications Association and the NCAA’s Division III Athletics Communication Directors.
Johnson was also an avid traveler, golfer and runner, having finished three marathons.
A remembrance will be held Feb 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home in Natick, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
