Heat cedes to the reign of rain
Thursday brought record-breaking heat to the Boston area, as temperatures of 88°F were recorded at Logan airport, topping the previous record for the day of 86°F set in 1977. Unluckily for those who enjoy the heat (and luckily for those who don’t), temperatures will be dropping this weekend as rain begins to move in. Starting on Friday afternoon, temperatures will remain relatively mild, most likely not exceeding the 50s and not going below the 40s. Clouds will move in on Saturday and chances for rain will begin that night, so make sure to bring your umbrellas while you’re out and about enjoying the CPW festivities!
Inauguration Schedule for President Kornbluth Released
On May 1 2023, the formal inauguration ceremony for President Kornbluth will take place from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Killian Court. All are welcome to attend.
MIT Offers Admission to 1,259 applicants for Class of 2027
With an acceptance rate of 4.68%, admission to the Class of 2027 was highly competitive. The acceptance rate for this year increased from the previous year (3.96%), but remained markedly lower than pre-pandemic acceptance rates (approximately 7%).
First approved drug for Rett Syndrome orignates from MIT Professor’s Lab
Sur emphasized that “there is certainly still much left to learn” and that his lab has “never stopped working on Rett Syndrome.” Regardless, Sur said that his lab’s work culminating in clinical impact was a “dream come true.”
MIT victorious at 83rd Putnam Mathematical Competition
Since 2019, MIT has claimed all five of the highest-ranking spots, known as Putnam Fellows. The Putnam Fellows for this year’s competition were Daniel Zhu ’23, Minyang Deng ’24, Brian Liu ’25, Papon Lapate ’26, and Luke Robitaille ’26. Zhu has been honored as a fellow every year that he has competed.

On March 27, the Alumni Wang pool will be closed for renovations. The rest of the Alumni Wang fitness areas will remain open, although MIT Recreation cited the possibility of disruptions.
